Walk His Way

“Blessed is every one who fears the LORD, who walks in His ways.” Psalm 128:1

“You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance.” Psalm 65:11

When we began a new ministry to the women of LCC on January 1, 2014 (ten years ago), we only anticipated one year’s worth of daily devotionals, 365 different testimonies written by various women in the church whom God had gifted to communicate with the written word. We planned to publish a book of these devotionals, making it available to the church body as a HER Ministry fundraiser.

God’s plans were so much bigger than ours. Three thousand two hundred eighty-five extra devotionals were posted—way beyond what we could ever ask or imagine. For ten years, wonderful writing women in our church body have sat before the Lord, studying His Word, listening for His word to them, praying, and taking time to notice what He was doing in their lives, then faithfully writing it as a devotional. Our team has posted these writings for whomever God would send to read them.

It has been a walk of faith, not sight, for the writers. We never knew who would read them or if they made a difference. Many readers wrote comments, which was a great encouragement to the writers. We’ve written through losses and gains, storms, droughts, fires, and a pandemic, not to mention personal struggles, fears, relationship difficulties, births and deaths, and all the other things we all face daily. We trusted the Lord to keep speaking to us, entrusting us with the right words, and bringing readers to see what the Lord would say to us.

As it turned out, God’s plan wasn’t only to minister to the women at LCC. We learned as we went along that many husbands were also reading the devotionals. Many readers shared the devotionals with their daughters, mothers, grandmas, aunts, and friends far and wide. Some were printed out and taken to the local jails to be given to female inmates. Some were folded and put into Bibles, re-read often as a reminder of a pertinent truth. Some subscribers lived in foreign countries and shared them with their church bodies. Some hung them on the refrigerator next to the kindergarten artwork. This was all way, way beyond what we ever asked or imagined.

Now, dear readers, it is time to say goodbye to this season of ministry. We have faithfully given you what the Lord has given us, and we were glad to do it. Now, we look forward to new ministries as the Lord leads. He calls the shots in our lives; we are all watching to see what is coming. “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-2a).

Tomorrow, I will write some closing thoughts. Our hearts are full of love for each of you.
