Joy – Day 6
“Joy to the world! the Lord has come; let earth receive her King!”
These words, penned by the English minister Isaac Watts in 1719, are inspired by Psalm 98. It is interesting to note that Watts was alluding more to the second coming of Jesus than the first. We sing them today as a Christmas carol.
As we consider joy, we can look at both Advents and realize the source of our gladness in Jesus. Because He came as a Babe, lived a holy life, and made the perfect atonement for us, we now rejoice. Just as He came the first time, He will surely come again to establish a holy kingdom, and we will forever be with Him. How much more will we rejoice on that day when we are presented faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy?
It just keeps getting better! Come, Jesus, come.
Prayer
