Holy Fear
“The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.” Psalm 19:9 NASB
There have been times when I’ve been gripped by the powerful control of God. This is God’s overwhelming presence that changes us, confronting us with His Holy wonder, and removing the veil of lies we’ve listened to. When we submit to it, it results in our undoing of “self.” Like Isaiah said in Isaiah 6:5, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.” NASB 1995
I think this is the most spiritual healthy, loving and powerful encounter with our Lord, when He blesses us with getting our complete attention. The fear of the holiness of God can help in not making decisions that are ungodly, causing us to stop, and pay attention to avoid sloppy living.
Our Almighty God created the universe with just a word, and continues to control it, including our lives. It’s our choice to walk in this or run the other way. The result to paying attention in watchful submission is nothing but good. It’s our best life.
“Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Brothers, what are we to do?’” Acts 2:37 (Peter’s answer was repentance).
This godly fear is what causes one to surrender their life to Jesus Christ, believing in Him unto salvation. This godly fear is also what causes us to continue to desire Him and seek Him with all of our hearts, living for Him in our day-to-day circumstances. This fear causes us to stop sinning and choose His way. Our lives are worship unto Him. I’ve currently been convicted and drawn to stay in this place so I’m not wasting God’s time, and to accomplish what He’s created me for. This requires constantly asking for His help and direction. In doing so, there is fulness of joy because it pleases Him, and this is where true satisfaction is found.
Praise God for His never-ending mercy that forgives and resets us in His perfect will daily. We need Jesus’ grace and forgiveness, and the Holy Spirit empowering us to submit to this call. The outcome is a closer dependance on Him and a life reflecting His glory. This is how He created us—to live in this communion with Him. It becomes our deepest desire. Everything flows from there.
“Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act,” (Psalm 37:4-5 CSB).
Dear Lord, thank You for blessing us with Your presence, giving us a holy awe of the reality of Your greatness and truth. Help us to press in and seek You unto complete surrender of our selves. You are worthy of it all! In Jesus Name, amen.
Thank you for this beautifully written reminder of just how faithful our God is. In my younger years through countless family tragedies, some of which I carried a heavy burden as I may have been directly and/or indirectly involved. I remember feeling that “God was done with me….and that I could never face Him again, and what I learned was that when I turned around, He bumped right into me and had never left me to be all alone. I often look upon some of those ‘trials’ as God pulling the rug out from under me, so I would land on my ‘back side’ and be forced to look UP….and, to my surprise, eventually learned through studying Scripture, that He had, “worked all things together for good……” I am so very grateful for the discernment, knowledge and wisdom that come from years of walking with Him. His love is never-ending. God Bless You all.
