Hearing the Song
“The LORD your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
Yesterday this verse was included in my daily reading through the Bible schedule, and I wrote it down in my journal because of its sweetness for the recovery and hope for the nation of Israel in the chapter context. But then I was listening to another Bible study in which this same verse was shared, bringing up the point of God’s constant favor and joy, especially when we respond in faith. I whispered, “Thank You Lord.” Later in the afternoon, I picked up a devotional and randomly opened, and this verse was featured regarding God’s enjoyment over us. Wow! This reality that He’s singing over me right now and quieting me with His love is so amazing! I want to hear His song!
I do need this encouragement from the Lord. He knows I do. The difficulties with family health issues are heavy and I didn’t realize I was carrying this. I have been pressing through, knowing the Lord is with us. I know He works everything for good and I trust Him, but it’s still hard seeing loved ones suffer and go through hard things. But I’m encouraged because with this verse I know the Lord is speaking to my heart to listen for His song. He is present.
Our encouragement in the Word to praise the LORD and to joyfully sing are not suggestions, but commands. They also are not one-sided. There’s a deeper purpose. We meet and connect with our God in His song.
“Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name for it is pleasant” (Psalm 135:3). When we look to Him in trust and do this not just as a self-manufactured practice, but unto the Lord in faith, it becomes our reality. My life circumstances may not change, but my outlook does, because we are not alone. His love is carrying us and He is working His kingdom good in our circumstances. He quiets us with His love.
Lord, thank You for this verse and how You meet us in Your Word. You are mighty and will save. The circumstances are in Your capable hands and we are listening for Your song.
So beautiful and true!!!
