More of Jesus

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

I prayed a prayer this morning that I have often prayed over the years. I prayed that I would have more of Jesus. I don’t know if having more of Jesus is actually possible for a born-again Christian, since God has already given us His own self, His Holy Spirit, to live in us; and since Scripture tells us Jesus and God are one, then perhaps we could say that we already have as much of God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit as we possibly can.

Yet, my heart persisted in prayer. “What would it look like, Father, to have more of Your Son in me?” It wasn’t but a moment before these thoughts came to me:

More of Jesus means…

…more love for people;

…more godly wisdom;

…more realization of God’s power and authority;

…more smiles and joy and laughter;

…more anticipation of eternity;

…more right words in the face of adversaries;

…more peace;

…more ability to give comfort;

…more obvious light in the darkness;

…more awareness of God’s presence;

…more obedience to the Word;

…more willingness to suffer;

…more submission to the Father;

…more certainty of triumph and victory over the enemy;

…more eagerness to reach out in fellowship;

…more enthusiasm to touch those who seem untouchable;

…more “being about” my Father’s business;

…more discernment about what needs to be done next;

…more patience with those who don’t believe;

…more goodness, gentleness, tenderness, caring, humility;

…and more time on my knees in prayer.

No doubt you could add to this list. In fact, would you do that in the comments section? It will bless us all, including this writer.

Jesus, we humbly ask for more of You, whatever form that takes. In Your infinite wisdom, You know how to perform this work in us. We watch and wait for You, O God. Amen.
