There Will Be a Day
“And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.’” Revelation 11:15
I have taken on a project of digging deeper into the ancient prophets and looking at the hidden meanings and nuances behind the words on the surface page. One phrase kept repeating in my mind—”on that day.”
His plan spans generations and centuries. He is in no rush to judgment, but waits for every heart that will believe. He exhibits such kindness and patience. Grace is made available to all humanity. Nevertheless, there will be a day. There will be a reckoning. Sin will be judged, for He is just.
Nations rise and nations fall. The rich and powerful grind the faces of the poor and needy. Men of power come and go. Corruption, bribery, and evil take root. In all this He watches and waits—for there will be a day.
He is not unmindful of our sufferings and frustrations. He will meet us in the midst of living life on the planet. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. In all of this, we can be sure the wrong will be made right, the poor will be made rich, the weak will be made strong. His purposes are sure.
There will be a rapture. There will be a tribulation. There will be a second coming. There will be a judgment. There will be a millennial kingdom and there will be an eternity with a holy God as in the days of Eden. It will be more than we can think or imagine. We will worship Him in humble awe of the stunning beauty, vibrant color, overflowing provision of the kingdom of our great God. Indeed, a glorious future awaits.
“On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east…Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones with Him” (Zechariah 14:4, 8).
“On that day the Lord will become King over the whole earth—the Lord alone, and His name alone” (Zechariah 14:9).
“Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with both wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate; and He will destroy its sinners from it” (Isaiah 13:9).
This is just a sampling of what the prophets say about the day of the Lord yet to come. I came away humbled by the utter destruction that is to come upon the earth, yet hopeful in God’s good plans for all His people, both Jew and Gentile. I have a greater confidence that He is sovereign and able to establish His kingdom on earth as it was originally intended. He is a great Savior.
May we be found ready. Look up, for our salvation draws nigh. “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well” (Julian of Norwich). There will be a day!
Lord, we look up to You, awaiting the sure fulfillment of what You have promised. Amen.
Amen!
“Maybe today?” always scrolled across my computer screen at work for years, and it opened up so many questions as people (co-workers, clients, friends) sat across from me at my desk and they could not resist asking what it meant. A perfect opening for me to share what I was expecting and praying for. Thank you for this reminder. God Bless you all.
