Finding
“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
Back in my early married days, all I could think about was getting pregnant. In fact, my dream went much farther back than marriage. Even as a teenager, I practically memorized the baby section in the ever-present Sears catalog. I would pick out my favorite outfits for boys and girls. I even judged which babies were cutest, which looked enough like me to be my own. This was a very private longing, and I never talked about it.
What I most dreamed of was being a mommy. After I got married, you could say I was “seeking pregnancy,” and I found it everywhere except in my own body. No matter where I went, I saw pregnant women—walking on the sidewalk, shopping in the grocery store, sunning at the beach.
The more you seek for something, the more you find it. This isn’t only true when looking for pregnancy. For instance, I never notice VWs unless I am with my grandkids, who insist on punching one another every time they see one. Suddenly, VWs are in every street and parking lot.
You can think of examples of things you’ve wanted, and then you began to see them everywhere. It’s a spiritual principle, as we can easily see in scripture. It’s a truth God has ordained for our lives.
It starts with seeking God. This is the main thing we should seek—not clothes, homes, food, extras. He gives us those things—His promise is, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).
Clearly, the foremost thing we should seek is Him, His kingdom, His reign, His presence. Seek Him for His own sake—for the sake of knowing and serving Him on this earth. Seek Him for His joy, power, love, forgiveness, comfort, peace. He is all this, and so much more. His blessings can’t be counted; His beauty can’t be matched; His will can’t be challenged. He is far and above all that we can comprehend, and far more than we know to ask for.
I never got pregnant, but I got a blessing more grand and magnificent than anything on the earth—I sought and found the Lord, exactly as He said I would when I sought Him with all my heart.
When I seek Him all around me, my eyes are opened to the beauties of His creation.
When I seek Him in my daily life, my eyes are opened to people whom He loves.
When I seek Him in the church, my eyes are opened to how He uses us in each other’s lives.
When I seek Him in my mind, I hear the words of Scripture, the lyrics to worship songs.
When I seek Him in my heart, I sense Him living and breathing inside me. There is no end to the places we can seek Him.
Father, our hearts are wide open to You today. We seek You for whatever You want to do or say to us. We love You, for You first loved us. Amen.
Amen!
Amen
The place so many of us want/enjoy! Ever closer to the Father!
It is such a struggle when we want so strongly to become pregnant and that doesn’t happen. In this fast-paced, chaotic world so many people need someone to care. Even if only for a moment, we can be that listening ear and loving hug. God puts many of His children in front of us to love.
