Thirsty?
“For I will pour out water on him who is thirsty, and floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring; they will spring up among the grass like willows by the watercourses.” Isaiah 44:3-4
A few years ago, just about one month after a devastating fire had torn through and ravaged the landscape of our community, I was both startled and encouraged by the green shoots and new plant life springing up in the midst of the blackened ground. Even though the ground had not yet received any rain, some moisture must have been left in the roots of some burned trees and bushes. The contrast between the charred, black ground and the bright green, tender foliage was such a sign of hope.
Just as our wonderful Creator designed nature to be reborn so soon after destructive forces, He made a way for us to be born again from the toll that sin had taken on our lives. The land, by God’s design, knows it is thirsty and thus responds to any water available to it.
If a plant can spring forth with new life from just a little moisture, think what He wants to give us—He says He will POUR out water on those who are thirsty. His desire is not only to bless us, but also our children and their offspring! And in so doing, He reveals His desire and power to restore us!
Nothing can live without water, and Jesus is the Living Water. He gives everlasting life and restores thirsty souls. He invites us to come to the waters and drink. He said, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink” (John 7:37). Again, He says, “I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts” (Revelation 21:6b).
Even as Christians, we are prone to wander and can become thirsty before we even realize it. Physically in order to stay well hydrated, we need to drink before we get thirsty. Let’s not wait until we are parched, weak and desperate spiritually before we partake of His Living Water. Let’s keep spiritually hydrated by joyfully drawing water from the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12:3).
Are you thirsty? Have a drink of refreshing, life giving water!
Lord, as we partake regularly of Your Word, make us springs of living water to offer to those who are thirsty. Amen.
Amen!
