Scared Silly
Dear Abigail,
I am the only believer at my workplace and I could lose my job if I speak of my faith. How can I witness to my co-workers without getting into trouble?
-Scared Silly
Dear Scared,
I have struggled with this same issue, and it helped me to remember these two things about witnesses:
First, it’s not the witness’s job to convince everyone of the truth, only to tell clearly what she’s seen. (Acts 22:15)
Second, it’s not the witness’s job to make everyone in the building listen, just to answer the questions asked. (1 Peter 3:15)
Now that you shared the burden of guilt you have been carrying, what should you do? You should abound in the life that you have been given, and let God fill you with all joy and peace. The good news is, the more trouble there is during these times, the more that your hope, joy, and peace will appear as a haven of rest and beauty, inviting people to ask about the hope that you have.
As you are watchful for these opportunities, take time to invest in relationships with your coworkers. Listen, ask questions, be considerate and kind. Building trust and caring for people are worthy pursuits in themselves.
Ask God to bring you opportunities. As you are faithful to witness in small ways, it will build courage for bigger ones. Perhaps God has you in that job for such a time as this. So don’t forget to pray!
“For you will be His witness to all men of what you have seen and heard.” Acts 22:15
