Peace in the Midst of Difficulties
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
I see many things that I must do on a daily basis, and the many things that are ahead, most of which I handle as routine and I feel no anxiety about handling. I’ve done them regularly and successfully without incident, so they give me no reason for trepidation.
However, some of the things I must do are either new or difficult for me because they require more effort, time, or skills that I don’t feel I have. At times, just anticipating them can cause me to cry, or hesitate, or not even attempt them. The fear of pain or failure is very real.
But I thank God that He has given me His Spirit that fills me and empowers me to step out and do those things I must (1 John 4:13). There is still pain and failure with some of those tasks or problems, but because I have spent time in God’s Word daily, He reminds me that I am never alone. He is with me every step of the way and He will never ask me to do something He has not provided the resources to accomplish (1 Corinthians 10:13).
The successes become opportunities to witness His power and provision—and even the failures do the same. They demonstrate that in being obedient to what God has called me to do, I develop spiritual muscles. They give me strength to get through the difficult times He has said we will have in this world (John 16:33).
Oh mighty Father, You have said in Your Word that in this world we will have trouble. You have also said to come to You with my problems, so here I am. I know You are with me in all things. I ask Your help to change my believing. Help me to trust You and Your Word when I am fearful or in doubt. Remind me of Your past provision and constant presence. Give me strength to endure and the motivation to continue. Show me Your presence in this situation and help me to glorify You in all I do. Amen.
Amen!
The ‘simplification’ of so much in today’s world has not made being the ‘head-of-household’ simple. So many things to keep track of.. Thank God I’m continuously reminded of His presence and His ability to do it all!
