A BIG God

“I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30

Don’t you love it when you wake in the morning with a song on your lips? For me, it’s usually a song we sang the day before at church. It plays over and over in my mind. The psalmist says he will praise the name of God with a song and oh, how much there is to praise about His name alone! But it is the second part of the Psalm that moves me.

The word magnify means to make something appear larger than it is. How can we make God larger than He already is? We can’t, and that’s the point. There is nothing and no one larger and more vast than our God, and yet we forget that on a daily basis. When we magnify Him with thanksgiving, we are reminding ourselves to see God bigger in our heartaches, finances, job, marriage, children… the list goes on.

He is bigger and more powerful and always working on our behalf, even if we don’t recognize it. That’s why praising His name can change the way we see our situation and more importantly, it can change the way we see God.

If you cannot see anything that you can thank God for in your situation, then turn on some worship music and PRAISE HIS NAME… and when it begins to play over and over in your mind… then magnify Him in your situation with thanksgiving. I’m turning worship music on right now!

Praise the name of God! We do magnify You in our situation, Lord!
