Leaves, Leaves and a Little Yellow Ball
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2
Leaves, leaves and more leaves, I thought while cleaning up our side yard. A tiny little yellow ball rolled out from among them, and with it, so did a pile of memories. This little ball, about the size of a BB, was representative of so many memories that began to flood my mind.
When my oldest grandson was in junior high school, he and his many wonderful friends would have “air soft” parties and we would find these little BBs everywhere!! His younger brothers would join in, and they all had such a great time. Afterward, they would end with a marshmallow roast and make s’mores, and spend the night playing games. One game worried grandma a bit because it was hide and seek played after dark! God is good, and no one was ever injured in any of the games.
“Those were the days,” as the old people used to say, and now as I reflect on the past, I can join them in saying “those were the days.” I loved all those boys and still love them and pray for them even though they are all grown up. Just because they are grown-ups now does not mean they do not need prayer. Maybe they need it now more than they ever did.
Whenever I see something that reminds me of someone, I feel it is a message from God to pray for that person. Memories can be a reminder to pray for those who God has brought to mind. Let’s pay attention to the little “hints” God uses to remind us to pray for others. He can even use leaves and a little yellow ball.
Father, You have ways of talking to us about what You want to get done. May we be sensitive to Your nudges, and lift up prayers for those You bring to mind. Amen.
I LOVE prayer “hints”! My late Grandpa used to regularly pray using the “hint” method :D. I do too now! It is wonderful how God can incorporate His loving reminders into our every day life.
I TOTALLY agree! Sometimes Holy Spirit prompts us to text or send a card too….love this, thank you.
