Open Palms

A Mini Devotional

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4

As I began to pray the other morning, I strongly felt that I should open my hands before the Lord. I was sitting at my desk, so I stretched out my arms in front of me, palms open and facing up. There I sat, waiting, meditating.

Within a few moments, I asked myself (prompted by the Holy Spirit, I’m sure): What am I saying with face-up open palms?

Well…

  • I am lifting up all of myself to the Lord.

  • I am offering up all I have.

  • I am showing that I hide nothing.

  • I am holding nothing back for myself.

  • I am displaying my helplessness.

  • I am ready to receive.

  • I am proving my willingness to take what He gives, whether burden or blessing.

  • I am available to be anointed for service. To write. To comfort. To give. To heal. To help. To work. To pray. To get out of the way.

  • Mostly, I am raising my hands in praise.

Father, may our hands always be open before You.
