Too Many Questions
“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess His name. And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:15-16
I love to ask questions and learn new things. When I watch a film, I am always intrigued about where it was filmed, if it is a real town or set, what era it is, why the characters are there, and so on. When I meet someone for the first time, I love to ask questions about their life. For example, what brought you to live in this place, tell me about your family, what kind of work do you do, tell me your story about your life. I love hearing people’s stories. The Bible is a fascinating source of questions, answers and stories about real lives with real people.
My hunger for facts is not always a good thing, especially when my daughter wanted to bring a young man home to meet the parents before a date. She says I should have been a news reporter with all my questions! Interesting—while writing this, I remembered my first real job was a Research Assistant for a commodities firm where I researched and reported daily prices to investors. The table was turned on me as I was asked the questions and my job was to share the answers.
Today while thinking about my curious mind, I was humbled when I felt the Lord speak to my heart. I felt He said, “You are good about asking the questions of people, but not so well at sharing about Me.” My heart was very sad as I realized this is true about myself. If someone mentions God or their faith or something about being a Christian, I jump in and share too about my faith. But on my own, I am not good at being bold and sharing my faith first, telling people about Jesus and sharing the reason for my joy and hope.
What I cherish about our Lord is that He loves us even when we don’t have it all together in our Christian walk, and He always pushes us to press deeper and draw people to Him. He wants us to mature, and that is how He sees us, perfected in Him. After all, the story of Jesus is that He loved people, and through His ministry He gave them a reason to believe.
I’m now praying for opportunities to share my faith first with new people I meet and I hope to be back here someday writing to tell you about what God does with me with this new challenge.
Thank You, Lord, for humbling me today to see my need to share my faith openly, tell people about You, and give people a reason to have hope and believe!
I prayed God would use me too to share to others!
