Intrusion

“My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” Proverbs 1:10

I am going to take some of you back a few years. Many of you weren’t born yet when “A Gathering of Eagles” was being filmed at Beale Air Force Base. My future sister-in-law and I were sitting on the lawn outside of the motel in Marysville where the cast was staying during the filming. We hoped to see them as they entered the motel following a day of shooting but they never arrived…at least we didn’t think that they had.

We were sitting there admiring our tans and toenails when my sis-in-law said, “Sissy, let’s climb the rock wall and see if they are around the pool.”

I said, “Oh no, I don’t think that we should do that.” She told me that I was always much too cautious and that you have to live on the exciting side of life and after all, we didn’t see a no-trespassing sign. Soooo…I gave my okay and we climbed the wall.

We got to the top and saw Rock Hudson, Rod Taylor, Henry Silva (swooooon), and Mary Peach around the pool. They told us to come on over and so we did. We visited for a while and when it was time for us to leave, Rod Taylor said that perhaps we should use the gate instead of climbing back over the wall. We all laughed. I knew that I had violated a rule when I climbed over that wall but it was oh-so-exciting, and anyway, the actors graciously accepted our sudden presence.

Isn’t that just the way Satan draws us to sin? We think, “Oh, it wouldn’t hurt if I just do this or that.” But that one sin draws us into a deeper sin and we are off…following Satan’s directives, feeling a little guilty, and yet it can be so exciting until we are totally caught up in sinning and it becomes a way of life.

Many times, but not always, the younger we are, the more difficult it is to say no because we want to fit in with the crowd. Our Lord says in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

I allowed myself to be drawn into sin during the above-mentioned episode because I thought, “Well, after all, what harm would it do?” Those actors were good-hearted people but they could have easily reported us for our foolhardiness and our heads would have hung low as we exited the pool area.

El Shaddai, thank You for Your protection and for being our solid foundation as we walk this path. Holy Spirit, I pray that You will rise up in the hearts of those who are struggling with sin in their lives. In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
