God Sings
“He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17b
This little portion of Scripture amazes me…the God of the Universe sings over us!
The Bible also tells us that the heavens and the mountains sing (Isaiah 49:13), and NASA tells of a mysterious “song” heard from Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.*
Another portion of Zephaniah 3:17 says, “He will quiet you with His love.” I frequently sang “Shout to the Lord” when I was pregnant with my youngest child. Once she was born I discovered that if I sang it when she was fussy, she would usually quiet down. When she was in her “challenging” two’s and three’s it would still work, only sometimes she would cover her ears and walk/run away…she didn’t want to be quieted! I imagine I do the same with God sometimes.
The rest of the Scripture is equally beautiful. “The LORD your God is in your midst.” He is right here, right now, with me, no matter what is going on.
“The Mighty One will save.” He’s got this, no matter what “this” is.
“He will rejoice over you with gladness.” Gladness is this verse means mirth, gladness, gaiety, pleasure—the joy of God. We bring God joy, mirth and pleasure. Isn’t that incredible, ladies?
Dear Lord, whether we need to be reminded that You are with us, You will save us, Your love will quiet us, or You rejoice over us, please meet each of us in a personal and tangible way. I pray each of Your daughters would hear You, their One True God, sing over them this very day. Amen.
I am so grateful for the ‘songs of deliverance’ and the music that quiets our soul. I have found that by turning on just ‘instrumental music’ and allowing that to play in the background of my day, I am no longer affected by the ‘news, which is typically alarming and/or very politically driven, and I can have a much closer connection to what God prefers, “Be Still and know that I am God”. I have to admit, that the words of these songs oftentimes come into my mind as I listen to the melodies, which can be a distraction, but all-in-all, I have a peaceful spirit throughout the day.
God Bless You all.
