Like the Waves

“They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:23

Ever since I was a child the ocean has fascinated me. I love the sound of the surf, and the changing tides. I like the wave foam that washes across my feet and the beauty of the breakers hitting against the rocks. I like the colors that emerge as a wave builds and crests, and the white caps as the wave begins to break. Such beauty God has created!

I was enjoying those fascinating waves when the Lord brought the constancy of the motion to my attention. It’s not that I was unaware of the constant motion, but I enjoyed watching individual waves…”Did you see that one?!” “That was a big one!” “What a beautiful wave!”

This time the Lord focused my attention on the ongoing, never-ceasing constancy of the waves. The more I pondered, the deeper He took the thought…abiding, persistent, steady, faithful…each word so true of the Creator as well as His creation.

The realization poured over me that God had left His fingerprints, at creation, in the constancy of the ocean as a reminder of His unceasing faithfulness! What a wonderful reminder!

Today, no matter what life has thrown at you, may the truth of God’s ongoing, never-ceasing love, mercy, grace, and faithfulness wash over you…it is unceasing, like the waves of the ocean.

Holy, heavenly Father, thank You for leaving Your fingerprints on Your created world. Open our eyes to Your truth in the world around us. Thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You for You. Amen.
