“The Lord said to Elijah, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’” 1 Kings 19:11 NIV
When God Whispers, He is Still Speaking
Elijah, the great prophet, was fearful and running from Jezebel. He’d seen God move in amazing ways, and yet here he was running when Jezebel said she was after him.
Elijah was instructed to go up on the mountain and wait for the Lord to pass by. The winds came, but God wasn’t in the wind. An earthquake came, but God wasn’t in the earthquake. Fire came, but God wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire came a “gentle whisper.”
When God whispers, He is still speaking. We may have a hard time hearing Him, but the “still small voice” can be just as strong in our spirits as a shout.
When we’re in the midst of a hard time (wind, storms, fire), like Elijah, we are invited to get alone and stand on the mountain. We usually expect dramatic answers because the situation we’re in is dramatic. And yet often God speaks quietly, in a gentle whisper.
He’s not distant, even if He is quiet. He wants to encourage and strengthen us in the midst of what we’re facing. As we listen, He’ll speak – maybe in a quiet, gentle whisper, but He speaks. Listen carefully and you will hear Him.
Thank You, Lord, that You love us, You care for us, You’re with us, and You’ll help us through any hard situation we’re facing.
This is perfect to share with my son, a believer, to read this morning!
Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.”………difficult to do, however, very worthwhile.
God Bless You All…
