“There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” John 6:9

Small Things

Recently new artwork was put up all around the office I work in. Some of the pictures are stunning, such as: jets in perfect formation against a brilliant blue sky and a beautiful, bejeweled hummingbird caught in mid-flight. Each piece has a motivational saying on it. The one closest to me says: “TEAMWORK–Great things are done by a series of small things brought together (Vincent Van Gogh).” It is in a color palette I’m not particularly fond of, and it is a picture of ants. Honestly, I want one of the pretty ones to look at. But… it is so true. Each ant is holding a piece of leaf two to three times bigger than it is, and they are marching in a row, as ants do. Each piece is nothing really, but when you add all the ants with all the tiny pieces together, it will feed their colony.

It’s kind of like our devotional writing. We keep plugging away, writing what comes to us from the Lord and/or life experience. One piece doesn’t seem like much, but added all together they form a veritable rainbow of encouragement, praise, groanings and glory to God.

Like the little ants, our words are far stronger than we can imagine. Jesus uses them to feed His children literally all over the world. “And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted” (John 6:11).

I’m liking that picture more and more.

Thank You Lord, for letting me be a part of this beautiful, diverse group of women. Help us all to realize and utilize the strength of our words for Your greater glory. Amen.
