“Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.” John 4:6
Journey to the Well
This is a summary of a 6-year long scrapbook journey I took based on Vashti Murphy McKenzie’s book Journey to the Well*.
The woman I found at the well is:
Gentle, humble, kind and compassionate;
an encourager, a prophet, an overcomer, a writer, dancer, prayer warrior;
she’s a wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend;
a reflector of the Light; a living, breathing testimony of God’s grace and mercy;
a woman of value and worth;
who reaches out to others with what she has learned;
One who is deeply loved by her Savior and Father;
Who will not despise her days of water hauling, which are preparing her for proclaiming;
who is learning to live life empowered by the strength of God;
who by faith holds onto her hopes, not fears;
who has the courage to pursue God-breathed opportunities;
who is confident that He who has begun a good work in her will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
She trusts God when He says to think bigger and it’s gonna be “crazy good”;
she speaks the Word of God, the Word of Life, into the circumstances of her life;
she remembers there is healing power in Jesus’ love;
she knows her uniqueness does not mean she is inferior or superior, it simply and beautifully means she is unique;
she trusts that God will not call her without equipping her;
she takes captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5);
she knows nothing changes without personal investment, reflection and transformation;
she believes He is able to do immeasurably more than all she asks or imagines, according to the Power that is at work in her (Ephesians 3:20);
she enters His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise (Psalm 100:4);
she knows the LORD is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him (Lamentations 3:25);
she trusts that she is okay because God is working;
she knows that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purposes (Romans 8:28);
she believes in miracles, and as a matter of fact, she knows she is one;
she remembers the joy of the Lord is her strength (Nehemiah 8:10);
she delights in the Lord’s favor and trusts Him for more;
she dances with the Divine, and more amazingly,
He dances with her.
The woman I found at the well is me.
