“…Your constant love and truth will always guard me.” Psalm 40:11b HCSB
A Constant Certainty
Constant: not changing or varying; continual; faithful, unswerving in love or devotion; steadfast; firm in mind or purpose; resolved.
Certainty: being certain; free from doubt or reservation; confident; sure; settled; trustworthy; unfailing.
In a home Bible study I attended, we were given the assignment of coming up with constant certainties about God in our lives. We were to take scripture and put it into the form of a statement of belief for our own personal situations, struggles, behaviors being worked on, etc. Here are some that I came up with:
- “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up” (James 4:10). I have a constant certainty that if I humble myself in the sight of the Lord, He will lift me up.
- “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in Me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT). I have a constant certainty that even though on earth I will have many trials and sorrows, I can have peace in Jesus and take heart (have courage) because He has overcome the world.
- “I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for Me” (Jeremiah 32:27 NIV)? I have a constant certainty that the LORD is the God of all mankind and nothing is too hard for Him.
- “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock” (Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV). I have a constant certainty that if I trust in the LORD and keep my mind stayed on Him, He will keep me in perfect peace and I can trust in Him forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.
- “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV). I have a constant certainty that God has not given me a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power, love and of a sound mind.
What constant certainties do you have about God? Those things that you have a steadfast, resolved, confident trust in Him about? These are the Scriptures you turn to again and again, or new ones He leads you to as He is working in your life. Write them down, lean on them. Trust Him for those things.
Dear Lord, thank You that no matter what is going on in our lives, You are a constant certainty. Amen.
Amen! I’m definitely going to do this ♥️
