“The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.” Psalm 34:18

He’s the One Who Saves

I was reading through some journaling and came across this sentence I had written in a very painful time in my life. “The Holy Spirit wrapped me in the most comforting blanket of love; everything was muffled like the woods when it first snows, and He said to me, this isn’t about you, let Me do this, its going to be okay.”

This situation pertained to one of my children who I so desperately wanted to help. I was going to leave work and go talk to someone about him, but instead the Holy Spirit talked to me.

As soon as I read it, I remembered that scene. I remember being panic stricken, gasping for each breath, my heart pounding. I had to do something, anything, to save him.

And then came the incredible calm, the warmth, the stillness and the focus. I felt the Lord was saying, “Who is this about? Is it about you and what you can do to save him, or is it about Me and what I can do to save him?”

“But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11). The very Spirit who raised Christ from the grave told me it’s going to be okay. He had this. Wow.

Then came a choice, to stay in the faith of what I had just been told, or go in the panic of a mother’s worst fear. I stayed. It didn’t mean I never panicked again, because I did, but it meant what I already knew to be true in my heart had been shown to me in an incredibly tangible way. I knew God loved and was watching over my son. I knew somehow it was going to okay. And eventually it was.

Ladies, my prayer for us is that in situations where we feel we need to do whatever it takes to save someone, we realize it’s not about us. He’s the One who saves.

Thank you, Lord, for Your Spirit of life. Help us be attuned to the many different ways You tell us that You’ve got this, and it’s going to be okay. Then help us to believe in it and walk in it. Amen.
